At Caged Fish we are great advocates of blogging and particularly blogging for business. They’re a great tool connecting with your customer and for targeting search phrases for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). So with issue 13 we thought we’d give you some quick and easy tips to write a better blog post.
So without further ado here they are…
- Write less (250 Words is enough)
- Litter the post with keywords
- Keep it simple
- Link like mad
- Include Bullet point lists
- Make Headlines snappy
- Make your posts easy to scan
I’ll now expand on these a little.
- Write less (250 Words is enough)
It’s as simple as that, the web is a fickle place and the majority of readers don’t have the time or inclination to read your War & Peace epic.
- Litter the post with keywords and key phrases
Think about what keywords your potential viewer may find your post by and use them.
- Keep it simple
Simple is simple! Simple to read, simple to understand, simple to digest, so keep it simple.
- Link like mad
Link to other pages in your site with relevant keywords. Link to other websites that are relevant to your blog post. Google likes links and threading throughout your site.
- Include bullet point lists
People love lists, they structure your info in an easily digestible format
- Make headlines snappy
Snappy headlines grab attention and pull your reader in. Contain your whole message or argument in your headline, keep it short, snappy, to the point and grab your readers attention.
- Make your posts easy to scan
Every few paragraphs insert a sub heading. Make sentences and headlines short and to the point. People scan through content on the internet so posts should be short and snappy rather than a long babbling mess.
So there’s 7 quick and easy ways to write a better blog post, to the point and concise, which is what your posts should be
Happy blogging.

If you’re still skeptical about the power of the blog The University of Massachusetts has just released results of a new study which compares corporate adoption of social media between 2007 and 2008 by the Inc. 500, a list of the fastest-growing private U.S. companies compiled annually by Inc. Magazine. It shows that 39% of these companies now have corporate blogs compared to 11% last year.
We at Caged Fish are great advocates of blogging and would advise any company, small or large to ‘blog’ on a regular basis. On Wednesday 1st October I had the pleasure of presenting our “Blogging fo business” seminar to a room full of local businessmen and women. It still feels that the area of maintaining a business blog seems daunting to most SME’s, the scarey thing is, the results can far outweigh the effert put in.
We will be running an evening seminar in Leicester on a date yet to be announced in November
If interested give me a call on 01858 469988
Cheers
Steve

I picked up on a fantastic post in the Web pro news blog this morning written by Neville Hobson
Marketing week have surveyed UK businesses about their blogging activity, it seems the UK uptake of blogging and social networking is way behind our US counterparts, despite the obvios benefits
The post can be viewed HERE

I attended a very interesting seminar today at the Leicester Space centre on the importance of Blogging for ebusiness, I keep “banging” on to our clients about the importance of Weblogs in the corporate arena, the seminar just managed to confirm these ramblings. The seminar was taken by Eileen Brown of Microsoft, who like me seems driven to get the corporates blogging. Eileens blog is worth a read, can be found HERE
