Hi, welcome to issue 9 from the fishbowl. This time around we're going to be prompting all you folks with eccommerce website to think about the imminent VAT increase and what you need to do.
VAT increase. Have you planned for it?
On 1st January 2010 the standard rate of VAT is returning to 17.5%. What this means to eccommerce websites (if you're VAT registered) is that you'll have to amend your site to take this into account.
You may be able to remember how to do this from last time and have planned for it to happen on January 1st (what a ridiculous time to instigate it on Bank Holiday), then again you may not. Considering the consequences and planning now could save you a whole lot of headaches come the New Year.
Things to take into account and consider;
- Can you make this change at midnight on 1st January?
- Where do you change your VAT amount in your eccommerce software?
- Are your prices Ex-VAT or VAT inclusive and when is VAT added?
- If you require help from your web-designer give them plenty of notice as they may well be inundated with requests.
We hope all goes well for you in this transition and that you can overcome the Bank Holiday issue of making this live. For all of your web related needs, why not give us a call to see if we can help? Our number is 01858 469988 or email us on steve@cagedfish.co.uk
