Hi, welcome to issue 8 from the fishbowl. It's been a while since our last mutterings, but hopefully you'll think it's worth the wait.
What version browser are you using?
(and why does it matter?)
First off let's find out what browser (the software you use to surf web pages on the internet) you're using and what version it's on.
Goto www.thismachine.info this will tell you what browser and version you are using.
There are 5 main browser types, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Chrome. The usage is split between them (see the table below).
You'll notice that IE (Internet Explorer) has 3 variants v6, 7 and 8. I'm going to be concerning myself with IE v6 mainly.

So, to the nitty gritty. Why should you be concerned with what version browser you're on? You can still surf the internet, it all works ok! What's the problem?. Well, basically, technology moves on and so does security, especially with IE.
IE6 was first released in 2001, in internet terms (much like dog years), that makes it 80 years old. Microsoft have brought out 2 major releases since then to plug security holes and make your browsing experience safer and better. Do you know if you've had an attack from the internet via IE6? I expect not. For a more in depth look at why you should upgrade go to; www.stoplivinginthepast.com
The reasons to upgrade are; • It's FREE • You'll be safer surfing • You'll have a better surfing experience.
Think of this - Did you have a tape Walkman? Do you still use it? Have you upgraded to an MP3 player? Why, the tape walkman still does the same job, plays music.
