Welcome to the third issue of our Newsletter. Last time we told you of a fantastic little tool offered by Google, this time our tip is Google related again.

Google local - Is your business listed?

Google have a little known service called Google local which is related to the main searches and particularly to Google maps. So for example, if you do a search for 'web design Market Harborough' you should get a google page with this at the top.

Google local listings

This shows Caged Fish as being listed second and is based on our distance from the centre of Harborough. Now how do you get your business listed on Google local? Firstly go to the Google local start page [Click Here] and sign up for a Google account if you've not got one (shame on you if you haven't). If you have an account, log in and head for the 'Local Business Centre' where you can add your business. It's a 15 minute form filling in exercise but it's worth it. The account will need validating before it will go live but instructions for this are on Google.

Now whenever anyone looks for your business type in your area, hey presto. Also, with Google maps, if someone puts the search in there you'll pop up too, as below.

Putting yourself for free on Google local is a great way of getting onto that elusive 1st page quickly.
